Santa Cruz Carnaval is second only to Rio and attracts interest and visitors from all over the world to Tenerife. The theme in the capital this year is Magic, and already many are spellbound.
On Wednesday January 30 the Carnaval Queen was elected and among the panel of judges were Sophia Loren and Gerald Depardieu. A strong field of 17 entrants put on a great show before 22 year old Nauzet Celeste Cruz Melo was crowned Queen in front of 9,000 delirious onlookers.
Carnaval goes on in Santa Cruz until Sunday February 10 and then the other regional Carnavals around the island kick into full swing with a blaze of colour, music and dance. It’s impossible to resisit so give in and join in the fun.
